In December 2015 I wrote about a warning that the Ontario Government is shredding marriage licenses if they were not mailed in with proper postage. However, this is not true. They wrote another letter in January 2016 explaining that the letter had been a mistake and the Ontario Government did not and will not shred Marriage Licenses.

Instead, the letter was meant to inform everyone that they are no longer providing “pre-paid” envelopes. Proper postage must be affixed to the envelope. The change was more in the “red tape” of how the process was done.

However, most often, the Officiant will be sending in the envelope and will take care of this, so you don’t have to worry. If on the other hand, you are mailing it in, please remember to attach proper postage.
